The hangover. What is up, gentlemen? What do we have here? Oh, my God. This is a special treat. At least for you guys. You get to be together. What's going on? David and Joe coming at us from. Where are you guys? Why are you together? What's going on? Joe Perot, tell us the story. Well, we are in Kihei. We met a little while ago to. To kind of get David over here. I'm in a highly secured condominium in the Kihei area. He was in the more upscale Wailea area. So I had to. I had to kind of bring him into this. This part of the island. But we are in Maui in. In the. In the Pacific Ocean in the middle. A small little strand of islands that happen to be US Territory. Go usa and over to my illustrious colleague, David Chase. I love. We're hanging out together. We're having a great time. We're having complete opposite trips right now. Joe is detoxing and being very healthy and going on runs and feeling the breeze and watching moon rises. And I am toxing because I am eating. I've gained 20 pounds. I'm mixing every alcohol imaginable, from rum to vodka. I've learned to mainline scones and croissants for breakfast buffets. So we're having exact opposite situations. But we've met here and we're having a great time now. Talking cards, hanging out. We're going to lunch. And we wish you were here with us, Jeremy. Yeah, well, listen, I am so jealous that I am not there with you guys. I mean, that's why you guys are in Hawaii. It's sunny there. You're wearing your glasses. I'm wearing my shades, too. I'm gonna at least pretend like I'm hanging out with you guys in Hawaii. This is a. This is a. This is an episode that has a very bright future. We all got to wear shade. So I'm happy to be here with you guys. Wish I was there, but damn. Anyway, it's good to have you. I love seeing you guys together. This is. This is Sports Cards live, full circle. This is incredible. Guys, we're gonna do a quick episode of the Hangover here. It. We are recording here on Monday. It's June 29th, and we just had Sports Cards live on Saturday. It was a fun episode. Joe, you were already in Hawaii. You weren't able to make it. David, you were in Hawaii, but you did join for the first half. You had some time away from the vacation. And listen, I mean, it was. It was. It was a fun episode. We had Chad Hawk on from gcc. And Joe, you didn't get to be a part of the show, but you watched it. What were, what kind of any sort of takeaways? Any thoughts about that before? Because guys, we have some cards to show, but we're gonna have a quick chat first. So Joe, any kind of thoughts about the episode on Saturday? I love the episode. You and HOJ at the end was also cool to see you guys riding solo together. But yeah, as far as the GCC thing goes, like, I was just a little surprised that, you know, as many people that sort of, you know, clamor for alternatives to, you know, the main grading companies, if not the monopoly known as Collector's Universe, that, you know, something, somebody comes along and throws something, a little alternative out there and immediately everybody's like, you know, kind of bringing out their, their critical voice, which is fine. And yet, you know, how about also just. You can't, you can't be on both sides of the fence if you want alternatives when they come in, you know, maybe, maybe amplify, maybe, you know, lead with some positivity. That's all. So I thought you guys did a great job. I know David sort of messaged that in the show itself, but I just thought I'd weigh in that. And, and for the most part, your chat was positive, Jay Lee. But you know, it's a few, a few squeaky wheel voices and, and it comes across differently. But overall, great show and it was, it was fun to, to listen in. Yeah, cool, man. I, I agree with you. There was some, there was some negativity, there was some positivity as well. And it's really easy to run other people's companies for them. It's really easy to talk about business ideas, yet never come up with one yourself. Right. And that's what, that's what people do and that's what the Internet brings us. And it is what it is. But you know, we learned to, we learn and I'm sure Chad is an example who's on and other, other entrepreneurs in the hobby and elsewhere. I learned to have a thick skin and really just focus on some of the good stuff and some of the encouraging feedback that they get. So, yeah, I wish them well. You know, we'll see, we'll see how the, how that business goes in time and what other options come out there competition wise as well. David, any kind of final thoughts from you on that on that episode of Sports Cards Live? Yeah, I mean, I, I want there to be new innovative companies in the industry. I Want to be welcoming with them. I understand being skeptical. I feel like we've had a lot of companies that have come in that maybe we feel that they, they took advantage of us as a hobby. I don't think this is one of those companies. I really do think that they are somebody who is trying to do things that's going to open up grading and make it where the, where there's less junk slabs to grade, which could open up the ability for us to get our cards graded. So I did like that. I am a little offended that when Joe started this conversation, he only mentions the part that I was off the air, how you and HOJ had a great edging of the show, but I'm slowly getting over it. And give me two more of these and I'll be 100 over it. So we're good. Yeah. Well, it was, it was a good half with you, David. The second. Listen, man, listen, you are on vacation. You couldn't be there the whole time. I, I hope you're happy for us that we had a good second half without you. No. Oh, of course. I'm extremely excited for. No, of course I am. I love Sports Cars Live. I don't need to be on the whole thing. And you know what? And I loved the Hangover last week. I told you guys, with you two doing it together old school also. So, yeah, I, I love every part of this show. I think the real story was the absence of Josh Adams. You know, he's, he's developing quite a following and when he's not there, it sort of gets people up in arms. So I, I don't know if we're working on that. I don't know what, you know, the, if people can reach out to Josh, where he is, what happened. But hopefully, hopefully he's alive. Well, he is. He's alive. He reached out. He's also been given a warning and he knows that, that if he continues to make poor decisions like going to weddings with his wife instead of coming on Sports Cards Live, he knows that he's on a short leash right now. Let's, let's look at some cards guys. We've got, we got a few. So Joe, I think you've got two or three cards here. David, you've got four. I picked up one card. Actually I picked up four cards last night. So let's go through. We're going to start with this one right here. Right there. Joe's gonna start about this also. Like, why are we showing this Joe? Okay, well, so last night, fanatics. Great job by the way. I was one of the few people in the, in the fanatics thing. I just want you to know I was toggling back and forth but super cool platform over there and I would encourage everybody to make their way over there. Yeah, he wants us to put our shades on. Guys, this is a shades on show. Come on. He doesn't want to be the one in Canada without with the shades. So, so last night I was bidding on a card, it was a Barry Bonds jersey auto card. But then you, you shouted it out and it immediately got like five new bids and I was like, thanks Jaylee. But hey, fanatics should thank you because you're doing your job. You're bringing attention to, to high end sports cards. My consolation prize is born of my interest in the World Cup. So a lot of what I've been doing here on my vacation time is watching the World cup and the, the France. You know, my last name is French. So I feel like if the US goes down, which hopefully they won't, but if they do, I'm going to be, you know, jumping on the France back bandwagon. And Killian Mbappe is, is one of the main, as I've seen him play, like he is uber athletic, kind of incredibly physical, incredibly skilled and I just love that card. It, you know, the color match with the blue on blue. And PSA 8 is perfect collector grade for yours truly. This isn't an investment card. This thing was relatively cheap out the door at a buck fifty. And I'm just like, bring it on. Killing Mbappe. All right. That was only 150 bucks. Yeah. Wow. I gotta ask. So, I mean, Joe, I remember back in the day, we used to joke around about Beater Joe. You know, when you'd have a vintage card that was all beat up, is. Is a PSA 8 of a card from 2022. Is this like a Beater Joe card? Like, is there such a thing? Because it, like, it looks mint to me. It looks gem mint to me. It's somewhere between a Beater Joe and a Jim Sparkling mint card, which is right where I like it. For ultra modern, I don't. I don't need a beater. A beater card in ultra modern doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you can get an eight or a seven, sometimes sixes, you can notice something. I. I don't even know what's wrong with that card. I think it's numbered out of 135 or some crazy. Some crazy thing like that. But it's just, you know, it's, it's, it's a pretty card. And watch out. France. France. Only thing. Only thing wrong with it is that it's a recent PSA grade, so it would have probably been a 10 a couple years ago. Okay, Joe, tell us about, Tell about, tell us about this card. Am I allowed to say anything? The next person. Joe, can you mute him? Can you mute him? Possibly. I just wanted to say, I don't think he's Beater Joe anymore. He upgraded his 48 league, Jackie, and he's now not Beater Joe anymore. No, it's Rodeo Drive Joe now. I mean, it's. Right Rodeo Joe. It's nice. All right, let's go. We got to get through these cards, guys. Joe, tell us about the Michael Jordan. So this was two Fanatics auctions ago, and our. Our esteemed colleague Christopher McGill actually owns the black one of. One of this. And it got my attention. This is numbered to 299. So it's a rather large run, but in the PSA pop count, I think there's about 29 or 30. And then you add the Becket and It's like about 50. And it's a gold refractor of Michael Jordan in a Bulls uniform. Upper deck reflections 2006. I just think it's a fantastic card. And I've been feeling like I missed out on the Jordan train. I paid a little over comps for that. But I don't think it's coming, coming back. I don't think it's coming back down to earth. Just like MJ is not coming back down to earth on that picture. Look at that picture. Is he about to do a reverse jam right there? That's what I look. Think so. I think he's doing that. I like it. Jeremy, you say anything about that card? Do you like it? I think it's a beauty. I think I, I don't want to not give you time to talk about each and every card, David Chase. So I'm gonna let you know, I'm gonna let you make yourselves late for your. For your lunch appointment and your lunch reservation. These guys are going to some special Beverly Hills type buffet. You know, Axel Foley's gonna come driving in there looking for these guys at some point, and it's the best Mai tai is on the island, so. Nice. I wish I was there. All right, Joe, you sent, you sent me pictures of three cards. Here's the third one. What do we. Oh, a step die cut prism. 1 of 1. Joe, what is this? This is a big piece. Oh, I like that. So, yeah, this is the only die cut. They, they do one die cut out of the premier. Or wait, it's the concourse. It's one of the selects. Only does a die cut. And I honestly think I got a. A better deal because the card is tilted in the slab. I don't know. I love that. You know, I had to go to the actual PSA website just to see. See the, the straight one, which you can get the card straight. So that probably will be what I do when I get my hands on it, is make sure it's straight in that slab. But yeah, it's. It's a, it's a. It's a curry black prism. One of one. I mean, there's not a whole lot more to say. It's a base card version and I'm super stoked to, to bring it in. Congrats, buddy. Very nice card. I'm going to say that car. Jeremy, thanks for asking me for that car. I just like to tell you, you know, there's a lot of people that hate it when the card looks like a mess in the slab. Right? Mike Petty, he would never buy a card like that. He cares about what it looks like in the slab. I'm okay with it. You know, you can always get it reholdered and spend $18 and wait seven months. But you know what? You can sometimes get a discount by doing that. And it's worth it. All right, well that's interesting that you said that. Also, it's a PSA7. I'll just note which doesn't matter for a black one of one because it's the only one in ex instance. But I will also say it may or may not have been a floaty case with the PSA because it's a die cut. Totally. So it might have. It may be so. But it's unclear to me if that's something that PSA does have. A case that will snugly securely. Maybe Jaylee knows. Nah, they, they put cards in whatever case they have in inventory. They don't really care if the card fits the slab. That's become obvious over the years. So like David said, you know, if it can save you money, great. But just sort of is what it is, right? But no great card, Joe. It's a, it's a monster card. So way to go buddy. Congratulations as you build up that Steph Curry collection. All right. I picked up three cards last night on eBay and one on Fanatics collect. I, I, I, I showed the Fanatics collect one earlier a few, a few minutes ago by accident. But I picked up this 49 Bowman Warren spawn just last night. This isn't a PSA5 holder. This card isn't very expensive. I got it for about 500 bucks. But it's just super well centered, great color. I mean it's like the perfect card for my collection. I, and I love collecting Warren Spawn cards. I'm gonna trade away a few of my later Spawn cards to to pay for this one. And I'm still in the, in the hunt for, for a or in the market for the Yogi Berra from this set to go into the flight. But this is a great card. I can now sub this into my 49 Bowman flight along with the Campanella, the page and, and the Mule which I recently picked up as well. So excited to add that to the collection and then these next ones. I don't know. I think I showed you. David. I don't think. Joe, I don't know if you've seen these ones. No. So last night I picked up the commentary over your card. They keep going, that's fine. Hey, if you have nice things to say about my card, please, by all means, I want to say something nice about that card. I love that. 49. 49 Bowman. Great. One of the best sets of all Time. I love that you're picking up a new flight. I like that this is your red for the moment. But the red can also have other cards which we spoke about in your first like, oh, I only want one of each color. But I now think that you're. You're starting to unshackle yourself. Yeah. Maybe multiple red cards, which I love. And man, that is literally a perfect version of that card. Oh, just a perfect, perfect card. And then last night, Joe. Well, there's a lot to like about that card from the centering, which, you know, it's not quite bang on, but it's pretty dang close, which is all you want in a bowman. And then the fire red color and an action shot with, you know, Warren Spawn. Kind of underrated if you look, if you look at him statistically and the, the length and duration of time that he did what he did. But the best part about the card is I see you in the car, Jaylee. I see your countenance in Warren. So I, I think that's the part I like the most. Awesome. Well, appreciate the comments, guys. I picked up three more cards. You were about to say something about how you were on fanatics when you ended up picking that card up. Sorry I interrupted that. I apologize. I bought that one last night during the fanatics auction. Weekly auction ending watch party show on YouTube and on Fanatics live. It was a ton of was bidding. I bid live on that one. It was a ton of fun. I didn't have to bid very many times. Actually I think I won it after the first five minute extended bidding window, but I wasn't able. So there were some cards ending on ebay last night while I was streaming the fanatics show. I couldn't bid on those goes live because I was busy running the show. So I had to put in max bids early on. I didn't snipe these cards and I put on max bids on probably eight different cards of this player. And after I was done my live stream, I went to see what I had bought. Not knowing if I bought 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 cards. I ended up winning three of the auctions. So I'll show you what they are. I picked up. Oh, that's a big picture. I picked up this Warren's. Sorry. This Pedro Martinez game. Worn patch card numbered out of 49. It's a FLIR card. Also grab this one. Tools of the trade. An absolute memorabilia game. Used patch card. And finally this one here from upper deck. Another Pedro Martinez game use patch card. And so I went from basically having I think one or two Martinez, Pedro, Martinez game use patch cards to three of them. Those are them. And, and these were, I mean these are not expensive cards, but they're pretty awesome. And so I picked those up last night hoping to pick them up at the National. I bought them on ebay from a pretty, you know, a guy who's got a well known seller who's got a booth there. So I'm hoping to pick him up from him at the show. I'm glad to hear back still. Yes. Before Pedro, you know, that was during the time when I really watched a lot of baseball and, and he was the best pitcher by far, you know, I guess like right after Roger Clemens, you know, during that time frame. How collected is he in for newer cards? Like, is he a very highly collected player in, in this, in today's market? I think he's definitely got a few people who do collect him and I've run into some of them as I've tried to find more of his cards, dad to my collection. And they're, I mean he's got, you know, he's got all the big 90s cards and all that. They're, they're, and they get very expensive, as you could well imagine. So I don't have very many. I'm, I, it's kind of one of these things where I'm only recently into collecting his stuff. And as I'm talking right now, I'm trying to find a picture on my camera roll here from a couple years ago at the national where I was walking out of a restaurant one night or into a restaurant and lo and behold, Pedro is walking out of that. Oh, I found it. Pedro's walking out of that restaurant. And this was on, this was July 29, 2023. There's me and Pedro just outside a steakhouse. So, you know, it's kind of fun. And he was like, he was super cool. He would have hung. You see, it felt like he, if he didn't have a ride to get into, he was willing to hang out and chit chat with me and a few others for as long as we wanted. Like he was just a cool guy, happy to be there. And of course he's one of the most lethal pitchers of all time. You know, like he likes to, he was the kind of player that if you, if the opposing pitcher was messing with any of his teammates, he was going to come back and bean somebody the next, the next inning. Like, aim for your Head kind of player, but. But he had that accuracy. He had. He had everything going. Probably my favorite pitcher of all time, Pedro Martinez. And it doesn't hurt that I got to meet him in person and. And had a great experience with that. So, yeah, it's. It's fun. It's a. It's a little player collection. So happy to have those. Of Dr. J, let's talk about some of these cards that David Chase just picked up. David, can I bring the first one on the screen? Really? Why. Why are we talking about Dr. J? I didn't pick up any Dr. J cards. What are you talking about? Like, I was wondering if you would try to call me on that. I was just having fun. There was really no connection at all. It was okay. Yeah, no, it was a good segue because. Because David Chase, like, the doctor, operates and. Oh, and. And perhaps he was operating. I haven't seen these cards yet, so let's cut into the next. All right, here we go. Here's the first card that J. And David. These. These cards you've actually picked up since you've been in Hawaii. You don't have delivery of them yet. I. I want to say one thing before. And. Sorry, we're going to be late to our reservation. That's okay. You know, Joe and I were talking. We're like, wow, you know what? Even though we're on vacation, cards never stop. You know, I was. I. I have been still part of the time when I'm hanging out, I'm by the pool, I'm by the beach. I am spending those extra few minutes on fanatics on ebay. I. It never ends as a card collector as we are just going through them and looking at my watch list and seeing what's about to happen. So, you know, I put in so many different offers when I was chilling by the pool kind of thing. So these are cards that I picked up while I've been out here in Hawaii. That's amazing. There's the picture of me and Dr. J. The lighting wasn't good, but there you can see that was. That was from July 28, 2022. All right, guys, here we Go, David Chase. Tell us about this. This card here. What do we got here? This card is a 1964 Dutch gum Beatles with Muhammad Ali. He has two of these cards with the Beatles. There's one that's Horiz, and there's one that's vertical. I like this one that's horizontal a little bit more. You might have seen the photo where he's actually doing that to all the Beatles, and they're all kind of in a row and they're all kind of falling down. But, I mean, look at this. We're meshing a 1964 Beatles card with the most iconic boxer of all time. I'm guessing how much this card costs. I don't remember, because I was in Hawaii and probably had a few cocktails when I bought it, but I think it was like 130 bucks, something like that. Relatively reasonable for a car that probably has 40 in its pop. There's probably a bunch of them that are non slabs. But how cool is that card? Isn't that very cool? Very cool. What's this one here? Tell us about this card. This card I wouldn't have picked up, but I was talking to Mookie, and Mookie is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. I said, mookie, have you seen Bruce Springsteen's first card, his rookie card? I don't know what the hell this is. It's probably from, like, some teeny Bopper magazine or something. But whatever it is, it's. It's probably Bruce Springsteen's first card. At least one. The first one that I was able to figure out. It's also not an expensive card. It also does not have a high pop on it. Bruce has a mullet, which always gives him extra points. And he has my sunglasses on, which looks like too. So listen, to get an early edition Bruce Springsteen card for somewhere around, like, 100 bucks. And I showed it to Mookie, and I showed him a version of it that was raw. I was like, look at this, Mookie. This is a card I feel like you would like. I literally looked at it five minutes later. It was already purchased. I go, did you just buy that card? He goes, yes, I did. So I ended up getting this slab one instead from 1970. It says 1970s. Does that mean they don't know exactly when? Yeah, they don't know when it was whenever the Teeny Bopper magazine came out. I guess it came out during a. A quarter instead of a month or something. All right, what about. Tell us about this one right here. This another cool Card. Wow. Are you seeing a theme of non sports cards? Sorry, my vintage sports fans. So this is Black Sabbath's first card at least. I'm probably saying this all wrong. Listen, if you're a music person, I have no idea what I'm talking about, okay? I'm just trying to find cool early cards of bands and musicians that I think are badass. And who is it more badass than Ozzy. And this is him with Black Sabbath. Very early edition. It's a cool card. Also like the pop on this. I make it up a number like 23 know it's like something crazy like that. Very early edition and fun. Let's go to the next one we don't want to take. My favorite one of these pickups of yours is this one right here. Tell us about this card, Mr. David Chase. This is my favorite one too. Come on Baby Light my fire right here. 1968 Panini Canti. The Doors. I mean, look at how cool it is. Jim Morrison looks like he's on the front of a record album. Man, that's a very large photo you got there, Jeremy. I like it though. And I mean look at this is a PSA9. And for this card it was. I could have been. There's one still online that is like a six. And this one was like a hundred dollars more than that card. And I think the pop on this was something like 12 with 0 above it and that high grade. So I was like, you know what? The Doors are one of the most iconic bands of all time. That set is a very iconic set that can tanti set. And for it to be one of the earliest Doors cards with a very cool picture in a high grade. The bad words. I know. But the investor little bit side of me took control and I ended up going instead of the PSA six to the nine. I know, I'm sorry. Everyone who hates me on sports cards live a cool card. It's a cool card, but I bought the higher grade for an extra $130. Okay. It's an amazing, an amazing card. Now, really quick guys, before we wrap up. Now, these, these non sport cards, these music cards, David and the Muhammad Ali Beatles card, like how important is it when you're picking these that they be what you consider to be a rookie card? Like, are rookie cards as big of a deal in music and Hollywood cards as they are in sports? And as a collector of them, like, I think it's important, but sometimes there's a way nicer card that's a year or two later in. Do you know from other collectors, like is it as important or is it not as important to have the earliest card? So with me talking about this, I have no idea what I'm talking about. So take that, you know, for what, what I've. Well, so how do you look at it for yourself then? Even. How do you look at it? The way that I've kind of figured it out is the earlier card the better. The problem is is that there's all these little sets that are international for these, for these music cards where there could be like a small set from Argentina that there's three of them in the total population that came out a year before this other version. A lot of times they don't know the years of these cards. So I do care about what the card looks like. I'm trying to get an early card as early as possible of some of these people. Especially like, like a Bruce Springsteen, somebody in the 80s, right. Like I'm trying to get the earliest cards. I don't really care about a later card of somebody like Bruce. Okay? I want one card for my collection and for that, but for like Beatles cards or Rolling Stone cards or things like that, I would love it to be in the earlier age. But I don't want these like ones that are kind of junk wax, which is like Opici tops from I think 1964. Don't hold me to that, but like something like that. Those are kind of like this. A lot of these or 56, one of those two. So you like, so you, you like the obscure? Really? The obscure, the foreign, that kind of thing versus the mainstream north versus the mainstream North American mass produced versions. Let's say definitely that because there's so many of those mass produced versions, it's kind of junk waxy. So I. On iconic people, I don't want those cars that there's thousands and thousands of. But I don't, you know, I'm still just figuring this out. It's a fun new lane. And the reason why I picked these up is because I am saving money for the national. But those cards are expensive. The, the vintage baseball cards that I want, that I really, really want, but I just can't pick those up in Hawaii, right? These ones are scratching, these ones are scratching the itch while you're on vacation and saving. Joe, what do you think, what do you think about these, these non sport rock and roll card type of things? All of them, I mean. And you know, Jay Lee, you and I kind of foraged in about four years ago I'd say. And I. I got my little, you know, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan. I think I got an Elvis card and maybe. And definitely some Beatles. I'm. And maybe Stones, too. What he just picked up. I love. You know, Springsteen is still going strong. My friends went to a show and said he's still the boss. 80 years old. The. But the Doors one took the cake for me. 1968 Cantanti. That is just bomber and in a nine. I'm. I'm embracing that. I'm embracing the play from a collector standpoint and an investment standpoint. Yeah, that's a killer card. The colors on that card. So authentic. So nicely done. Psychedelic, bro. Yeah.
